To discover and use the resources in you Lodge and community related to money, talent and materials.

• To discuss the different types of resources available in a Lodge (Skills, Experience, and Material).
• Have group fill out the sample resource sheet and then review the results and how to best utilizethis sheet to collect, maintain and use this information.
• Discuss recognition or appropriate alternative for individuals or organizations who donate service, time or materials to the Lodge or Council during the year.

• Chalkboard
• Flip Chart or dry erase board with markers
• Masking Tape

Prior to the arrival of then participants, print on the chalkboard or easel pad:

• The session name
• Your name
• Your hometown, lodge and council name
• Objectives of the session

• We will begin the session by first discussing the different types of resources ( Skills, Experience and Materials ) available in the Lodge.
• Different types of skills may include the following but not limited to (carpenter, plumber, bookkeeper, secretary, etc.)
• Different types of experience may include the following but not limited to (training, computers, newsletters, etc.)
• Different types of materials may include the following but not limited to (lumber, paint, landscaping, hammers, saws, yard equipment, etc.)

Ask the session participants to divide into groups of approximately 6 to 8 members each. Give the group a sheet of flip chart paper and copies of a resource sheet and ask them to fill out the sheet and then compile a list of the different types of resources that they found in their group on the flip chart paper. Have each group tape their flip chart paper to the wall.

• Discuss the results of the exercise.
• Discuss how to best utilize this information in a Lodge.
• Discuss ways to store and maintain this information.

Then as a small group ask the members to brainstorm the key components of a oral presentation to a prospective donor of materials or services. The trainer should have some idea of the type of product or service being asked for (example: partial donation of the food and room at a large restaurant for the Annual Lodge Banquet) After development of the key components of the presentation, have each group via one or two of its members make the request to the trainer acting as the representative of the donor.

Debrief the entire group, making sure to recognize:

• The sales pitch –
• the selling of the ideals of the organization -- what we stand for.
• The groups commitment to success
• The benefits that the donor will receive
• The ability of the lodge to assist in the future the donor
• The fact that assisting the OA and the BSA is tax deductible

Discuss recognition or appropriate alternative for individuals or organizations who donate service, time or materials to the Lodge or Council during the year.

Ask the session participants what they think are appropriate types of recognition. (Record this on the flip chart).

Ask the session participants if they current do any type of recognition and if so what they do.

Discuss ways that recognition can benefit the Lodge.

Conclude the session by reviewing what had been discussed in the session in context to the overall cell goal and the specific learning objectives of the session. Give the participants several types of resource sheets to carry home with them.
